Beer has arguably never been bigger in Bangkok than it is now. But we’re not just talking the usual trio of Chang, Singha and Leo – after a long time of locally brewed craft beers having been confined to an illegal underground scene (which they largely still are), craft beer has hit the big time in Bangkok. Discover all that the local beer scene has to offer with our guide to the best craft beer bars in Bangkok.

Or, if you’re more of a wine-drinker, click here to take a look at our recent post on Bangkok’s best wine bars.

The Wishbeer Home Bar, originally based in Ekkamai but since having relocated to Phra Khanong, is the drink-in arm of the specialist beer retailer that stocks hundreds of imported and local craft beers for sale both at its bricks-and-mortar store and online, as well as a wide range of spirits (including plenty that can otherwise be hard to track down in Thailand).

Daily, 11am-2pm and 5pm-midnight; Sukhumvit Soi 67 (BTS Phra Khanong); 02-392-1403;

Let The Girl Kill

Charoenkrung Road’s Let The Boy Die was one of many venues to suffer from Thailand’s notoriously protectionist licensing laws that severely restrict local production of craft beer – but, after ultimately closing, it’s back as Let The Girl Kill. From the folks behind the original venture, Let The Girl Kill offers a range of draught and bottled local beers, plus a good selection of satisfying beer snacks.

Tuesday to Sunday, 6pm-midnight; Charoenkrung Road (MRT Hualamphong); 080-599-6177;

Craft Intersect

This craft beer specialist in Bangkok’s eastern suburbs began with a titchy drink-in outlet right beneath Udomsuk Skytrain station, and has since moved to a larger location inside the D’Wavery community mall on nearby Sukhumvit Soi 101/1. This is a down-to-earth kind of craft beer bar, with a wide selection on offer that includes a large handful of draught options plus a wider variety of bottles.

D’Wavery Communty Mall, Sukhumvit Soi 101/1 (BTS Punnawithi/Udomsuk); 095-248-2838;

Taproom craft beer bar in Bangkok, Thailand - photo by Taproom

Now with two branches on different sides of Bangkok, the original Taproom in Phrom Phong features a whopping 26 different beers from around the world, all available on tap – the number of varieties being a reference to the bar’s first location on Sukhumvit Soi 26. Both there and at the newer Ari branch, Taproom shares a space with Casa Lapin coffee shop, with the beers coming out in the evening.

Daily, 5pm-midnight; Sukhumvit Soi 26 (BTS Phrom Phong); 087-460-2626

Pijiu craft beer bar in Bangkok, Thailand - photo by Pijiu

This relative newcomer to the Bangkok craft beer scene has taken root on Chinatown’s ever-trendy Soi Nana (not the other Soi Nana on Sukhumvit!), home to venues like Teens of Thailand and Tep that have quickly become Bangkok nightlife legends. Here at Pijiu, the focus is on craft beers, with draughts on rotation alongside a good selection of bottles, and a totally Chinatown-feeling retro shophouse interior.

Tuesday to Sunday, 5pm-midnight; Soi Nana, Charoenkrung Road (MRT Hualamphong); 081-839-2832;

Brewski craft beer bar at Radisson Blu Plaza hotel in Bangkok, Thailand - photo by Brewski

While rooftop bars just about everywhere else in Bangkok serve up an often overpriced menu of frequently sub-par cocktails – knowing that the views will continue to pull in the crowds regardless – Asok’s Radisson Blu Plaza hotel has taken a rather more innovative approach with Brewski, its new 30th-floor rooftop craft beer bar. Sip on a keenly priced local or imported brew as you take in the skyscraper views of downtown Bangkok, and either chow down on drinking snacks here or pop into the hotel’s Attico restaurant for top-notch Italian dishes in a stylishly rustic setting.

Monday to Saturday, 5pm-1am; Sunday, 5pm-midnight; Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, Sukhumvit Road (BTS Asok/MRT Sukhumvit); 02-302-3333;

HOBS craft beer bar in Bangkok, Thailand - photo by HOBS

With branches right across Bangkok, HOBS – or House of Beers – has long since been leading the beer scene in the Thai capital and, even if it doesn’t exclusively or primarily stock craft beers, it does offer a good selection of them. Each HOBS outlet is different from the next, with a unique decor theme that keeps things interesting.

Chit Beer

Chit Beer craft beer bar on Koh Kret in Nonthaburi near Bangkok, Thailand - photo by Chit Beer

The slogan ‘it’s good chit’ should be enough to convince you that this craft beer bar – named after its owner – is worth checking out even before you’ve heard any more about it. Set on Koh Kret, that green oasis of an artificial island in Nonthaburi province just to the north of Bangkok (itself perfect for a weekend cycle escape from the capital), Chit Beer offers a great rotation of homebrewed craft beers from an industry heavyweight, complemented by drinking snacks and a perfect riverside location in which to soak up the whole vibe. Better yet, the joint runs classes for those inspired by the craft beer boom to get more of a feel for the trade. Note that the bar-brewery is closed during the week.

Saturdays and Sundays, 12-9pm; Baan Suan Palm, Koh Kret (take the cross-river ferry from Pak Kret river boat pier – see our ‘what to do with kids in Bangkok’ blog post for more details); 089-799-1123;
