Discover the mystery of Ayutthaya and the local foods
Ayutthaya was the 2nd capital city of Thailand and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since1991. As you explore the city, our expert guide will delve into the story of this ancient kingdom. Along the way, we will visit what remains of the old temples. Sites include: Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Mahathat.
We will pick up many snacks from a local market. You will enjoy many signatures snack throughout the trip. These will include Roti sai mai.
Discovering the local dishes that originated from Ayutthaya. These include giant river prawn, a savory river fish dish, a famous curry and the legendary boat noodle.
On the way we will visit the uniquely church-like temple of Wat Niwet Thammaprawat in Bang Pa-In. Located on an island in the middle of the Chao Phraya River, we will have a little bit adventure by taking a cable to across the river.
Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya is one of the must cities that is easily done as a day trip from Bangkok. As the 2nd capital city of Thailand, it is full of history and culture. For many, the highlights are the temple ruins in the historical park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. However, for us the delicious local food is equally as exciting!
In this tour we travel by comfort of an air-conditioned car pick or minivan, with pick up and drop off from your hotel.
We will start by picking you up from hotel. After meeting the guide, we will take air-conditioned car to Ayutthaya
The first stop will be a visit to a local market where we will pick up many snacks, and charge your energy before a full day tour. The markets we visit may change depending on the day of the week.
Next us a quick stop in the town of Bang Pa-In, and a visit to the unique church-like temple of Wat Niwet Thammaprawat. The temple is located on island in the middle of the Chao Phraya River. Here we will have a little bit adventure by taking a cable to across the river to get to the temple.
Back on the road and a short drive to Ayutthaya, where we will start with a visit to Wat Phanan Choeng, which is the home of the biggest seated Buddha image in Ayutthaya.
We will continue to visit 3 more Ayutthaya's most impressive temples, such as Wat Yai Chai Mongkol, Wat Mahathat and Wat Phra Si Sanphet. We will break up the temple stops with food breaks.
Along the way we will stop to taste the best food in the city, whether it be random snacks in the market, lunch by the river - with giant prawns from the river, some of the city’s legendary "boat noodles", and a surprise snack or 2. You will not go hungry! There are also vegetarian food options available throughout.
At the end of the tour, we will return you to your hotel in Bangkok or help you find your way to wherever you are going next.

Food and Dietary Requirements: This tour is intended for people who are interested in exploring food but we also can adapt this tour to specific dietary requirements. Some of the highlight foods mentioned above (e.g. River prawns, boat noodles), do not have direct substitutes but we will do our best to accommodate. Please do inform us in advance.
Tours with children: Children are welcome but we may need to adapt according to the ages, especially with regards to the number of temples and the food choices. Where possible we will take you to a local eatery but we appreciate that children can be selective in what they eat, and we have a range of options available. Your guide will review the options with you.
Food Safety: We take food safety very seriously and all the places that we eat at we believe are of an acceptable standard and cleanliness to take guests to, but it is impossible to 100% rule out any risk of food poisoning. Our food safety record is very good and we have found it more likely a customer will get sick from a hotel breakfast as from food prior to our tour than during it.
Private and Custom Tours: This tour is currently only run as a private tour as it allows us to adapt to you and your family’s needs. This includes customizing for your pick-up location.
If it rains: We have fun in the rain! Don’t worry, it will be more memorable!
Dress Code: It can be hot during the day, so we suggest comfortable cloths, sun glasses and sun screen. There is dress code required when visit temple like the tops need to cover your shoulders and the trousers / shorts / dress need cover your knees. We can however, provide a sarong if needed to cover up but request you do dress on the conservative side.
Make a Booking:
(Involuntary) On the rare occasions when we, Expique, must cancel a trip, all payments received to date will be 100% refunded, which constitutes full settlement. There will be absolutely no deductions.
(Voluntary) If you, the client, must cancel your reservation, your cancellation fee will be determined according to the following formula:
Guests are allowed to change date for free up to 5 days in advance. Less than 5 days in advance we have to charge a change fee as we still have a duty to pay our guides and vehicle suppliers who have reserved their day for us. Date changes are also subject to availabilty
