Paused Dream exhibition: 09 May-28 June

Silom’s Kathmandu Photo Gallery, housed in a restored pre-war shophouse, plays host to this exhibition of photos exploring the lives of bar girls working near the Thai-Laos border. British-Thai photographer Cattleya Jaruthavee’s empathy shines through in colour-rich photos that highlight the hostesses’ similarity to other 20-something girls, contrasted with their entrapment in a cycle that steals them away from their dreams. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am-7pm; Pan Road (BTS Chong Nonsi); www.kathmanduphotobkk.com.

Wonderful Thailand travel fair: 14-17 May

The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s latest travel fair brings you the chance of snagging bargains on hotel and resort rooms, flights and more around the kingdom to fulfil all your wanderlust-induced cravings. Wherever in Thailand you’re thinking of travelling – or even if you don’t yet know – this is the place to plan far ahead and get a great deal. This year, there’s a particular focus on off-peak weekday trips. 10am-8pm; Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (MRT Queen Sirikit); www.wonderfulthailand.net.

Poetry and bombyx: 07 May

Enjoy an evening of poetry and bombyx – one-of-a-kind, true-life stories – at WTF Bar & Gallery, one of our favourite quirky Bangkok watering holes. You can even join in the fun and give your own poetry or bombyx reading; there’s no theme, so let your creativity run riot. Things get started at 8pm on Sukhumvit Soi 51 (BTS Thong Lor); www.wtfbangkok.com.
