Rattanakosin Island has been the royal and administrative center of Bangkok ever since King Rama I moved the capital to Bangkok in 1782. On this walking tour you explores the history of the Rattanakosin period including some of the area’s most famous landmarks. As you walk you will pass famous places like, the Amulet Market, Thammasat University, City Pillar Shrine, The Grand Palace and Wat Pho. However, we will also take you to a few lesser known temples and sights. This tour provides a great introduction to Bangkok and its history.

Along the way we will also pass landmarks such as the Pig Memorial, Wat Ratchabophit, Wat Mahatat, Sanam Luang, Ministry of Defence, Saranrom Park, The Amulet Market, Thammasat University.

Throughout the tour the local guide will provide insight into Thai society, culture and the role of the Royal Family.
Our local licensed Tour Guide will meet you at your hotel and escort you by public transport to the area of Rattanakosin Island from where you will explore by foot.
Once you have arrived in Rattanakosin Island you will walk between the pier at Tha Tien and the pier at Tha Maharaj. As you walk you will pass many of Bangkok’s most important landmarks and you will learn who they fit into the history of the city.
Along the way we will provide water and the opportunity to stop for cold drinks and a rest.
At the end your guide will get you back to your hotel or your next destination.
This is a short overview walk so we do not go inside the main temples. However, please discuss with us if you would like to include them.

This is a walking tour: We walk approx. 3km over the space of 2.5 hours. It can be hot but we will stop to cool down as we go. This tour is not suitable for people with walking difficulties.
Pick-up / Drop-off: Pick-up and drop-off at your hotel are included. Depending on your location we will determine the best transfer method and we will use public transport, taxi or tuk tuk to get to and from the tour route.
The weather: Bangkok can get very hot and as this is walking tour, please do dress comfortably but respectfully (we do go in temples).
If it rains we have more fun: Rainy season can be from May to November. When it does rain it usually only lasts a short time. Our guides will provide ponchos and we will adapt the tour where needed. We do not offer refunds if it rains.
Min Age: There is no minimum age but as this is a walking tour we encourage groups with young children to consider if appropriate.
Private / Customized Tours: This is a private tour so can be customized. We do not include entrance inside key temples like Wat Pho and The Grand Palace. If you are interested please discuss with our team. Entrance fees and additional time will be charged as extra.
