Bangkok has many communities where traditional life, cultures and crafts still exists. On this tour you will explore two such communities where time slows down just enough for you to catch a glimpse of its charismatic past and the treasures that lie within them.
This day tour takes you to the Ban Bat and Kudeejeen communities, which are both in the heart of old parts of Bangkok on both the Bangkok and Thonburi sides of the river.
The day starts with a quick boat ride to the flower market for a quick visit before heading on to Ban Bat. Ban Bat (Monk Bowl's Village) is the last remaining community that still produces the revered Buddhist alms bowls. Here we'll be led by our local partner into the heart of the community where men and women still tirelessly hand forge and hammer out these traditional and religious bowls that symbolize generosity. You will learn the significance of this lost art in its relation to Buddhism in Thailand.
After this we take a tuk tuk and visit the Kudeejeen community by the Chaophraya river best known for old Portugese and Chinese influences from over 200 years ago when Thonburi was the capital city. There are Catholic churches, Islamic mosques, Thai, and Chinese temples in the community, making this place a rarity where multiple religions co-exist so harmoniously. Kudeejeen is also known for its tasty Portugese-Thai-Chinese foods like the crispy golden cup snack called "Kra Tong Tong" and the Thai flavored cupcake called "Kanom Farang Kudeejeen". Here we will enjoy a tasty lunch before participating in a dessert making workshop. You will then go on a tour of the community where you will see the mix of European and Thai architecture and get the sense of the closeness of the community.
The day finishes with a long tail boat ride along the river and canals where we will pass many riverside communities before finishing the tour at Bang Wa BTS station.
